Notes for Allen MCCLANAHAN

DENTON, Texas — Dr. Allen McClanahan, 85, of Denton, Texas, died Feb. 1.

He was born Dec. 28, 1920, at Rector, Ark., a son of the late Myrtle Sigsby and August McClanahan.

He spent his childhood at Hot Springs, Ark. He attended Henderson State Teachers College (now Henderson State University) at Arkadelphia, Ark., where he was editor of the Oracle newspaper and an ROTC Honor Cadet.

After he graduated in 1942, he entered the Army. After World War II, he studied dentistry at Baylor Dental School at Dallas and graduated in 1949.

He practiced dentistry for 36 years at Pine Bluff.

He was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church at Pine Bluff, where he served as chairman of the board of stewards, sang in the choir and was song leader of the Wedding Ring Sunday School Class. He served as president of the Southeast Arkansas Dental Association.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Boon McClanahan; one daughter, Kay McClanahan of Denton; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Lakeside United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Rose Hill Cemetery at Arkadelphia.
