Eileen Canary Minkler
Eileen Canary Minkler, 76, of Petoff Garden Apartments, Gloversville, died Saturday morning, December 17, 2005 at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam.
She was born in the town of Mayfield on September 1, 1929, a daughter of Clayton and Estella Miller Canary and was a lifelong area resident. Eileen was a 1947 graduate of the former Broadalbin High School. She had been a resident of Petoff Garden Apartments since 1995.
Mrs. Minkler, along with her late husband, Harry, operated the former Hillcrest Poultry Farm on Lakeview Road, Broadalbin until 1974. In her later years, she was employed at Dunkin Donuts, Wallins Corners in addition to the Broadalbin Town Beach.
Eileen and Harry enjoyed several cross-country trips, visiting family, friends and points of interest from New York to California.
She had a special fondness for cats and was especially fond of Squeaky, who was a great comfort and companion to her.
Her second husband, Harry G. Minkler, whom she married on July 6, 1966, died on June 11, 1990. She was also predeceased by a son, Mark C. Kenyon, who died on August 19, 1999; a stepdaughter, Lynn Healey, who died in April 2003; and an infant brother, Merrill Canary.
Survivors include a son, Brian J. Kenyon of Pasadena, CA; a stepson, Lee Minkler of Charlotte, VT; a stepdaughter, Lois Staugaitis of West Sand Lake; her former husband, Jack Kenyon of Lompox, CA; 3 brothers, Donald Canary of Gloversville, Warren Canary of St. Johnsville and Kenneth Canary of Gloversville; 3 sisters, Shirley Rose of Fort Washington, PA; her twin sister, Arlene MacVean of Johnstown and Marilyn Ottendorf of Jacksonville, FL; 8 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special friend, Jack Bousa of Broadalbin.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Perth Bible Church, 1863 County Highway 107, Amsterdam with Pastor Earl Colson officiating. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 West Main Street, Broadalbin and on Thursday for an hour prior to the service at the church. Spring burial will be in the Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Sacandaga Bible Conference, in care of the funeral home.
