VALLEY FALLS -- John D. Overocker, 81, of State Street, beloved husband of the late Ruth P. Milliman Overocker, died Monday, October 9, 2000 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born in Mechanicville on March 17, 1919, he was the son of the late Urias O. and Lisa VanBuren Overocker. He was a graduate of the Mechanicville schools and attended the University of Hawaii. Mr. Overocker was a veteran of the US Army having served in the European Campaign during World War II. He retired in 1977, after nearly 40 years from the Boston and Maine Railroad in Mechanicville, where he had been a yard master. Mr. Overocker was past master of the Victor Masonic Lodge #680, Schaghticoke, a member of the VFW Post # 1938, Valley Falls and the American Legion Post #731 in Schaghticoke. Survivors include four sons, Joseph J. 'Joe' Overocker, John D. 'Doug' Overocker and Jay P. Overocker, all of Valley Falls and Jeffrey S. Overocker of Holden Beach, NC; one brother, Robert Overocker of Latham; and two sisters, Betty Gardner and Lillian Hubbell, both of Mechanicville. Also survived by 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Ida Morby. Funeral service will be held Friday morning at 11 a.m. in the White-Sanvidge Funeral Home, 58 Leversee Road (Rt. 40), Speigletown, where the Reverend G. William Pattison, pastor, Valley Falls United Methodist Church, will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be held in Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to either the Valley Falls Free Library, PO Box 296, Valley Falls, NY 12185 or the Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad, PO Box 41, Schaghticoke, NY 12154, in memory of John D. Overocker.
