For G. Overacker
REDWOOD -- A memorial service for Geneva M. Overacker, 91, Cape Vincent Adult Home, formerly of Redwood, will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Redwood Cemetery in the spring.
Miss Overacker, a retired teacher, died early Monday in the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown.
Arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa. Contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are several cousins.
She was born on May 7, 1902, in Redwood, a daughter of Charles A. and Elizabeth Hofferberth Overacker. Her father was a local merchant and civic lieader.
Miss Overacker was featured in a 1984 publication, "The Amazing Story of the Overackers of America," a directory of the unusual name shared by only one-thousandth of 1 percent of the American population. Both sides of her family were pioneers in the town of Alexandria.
Miss Overacker graduated from local schools and from William Smith College, Geneva, in 1923. She taught school for five years in DeKalb Junction before transferring to Alexandria Bay High School, where she taught English until her retirement in 1974.
She moved to Cape Vincent Adult Home about four years ago.
Miss Overacker was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the state retired teachers' association.
