Mr. Harvey McNary, age 76; died early Monday, June 25, 2001 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines; Polk County, Iowa. Funeral Mass is set for 11:00 a.m. Thursday from Saint Henry's Catholic Church with Friar Bernard Grady celebrating. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery with military honors by the Harry Harter Post of the VFW. Friends may call at Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, there will be a public scripture service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines; Polk County, Iowa. He was born in Mitchell, Davison County, South Dakota on December 22, 1924 the son of Sumner and Mary Annette Hendrickse4n McNary. On November 27, 1946 in Mitchell he was united in marriage to Margaret "Marge" Heck, and she survives. There are 2 sons and 2 daughters surviving - David (Helen) McNary of Marshalltown; Daniel (Janice) McNary of Marshalltown; Mary, Mrs. Norm Erlandsen of Georgetown, Texas; and Paula, Mrs Dennis McKenzie of Franklin, Tennessee. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. There are 4 brothers and 2 sisters surviving - Bob McNary of California; Duane McNary of Las Vegas, Nevada; Jack McNary of Mitchell, South Dakota; Isabella Herman of Mitchell, South Dakota and JonnaLou Wolf of Whitewater, Wisconsin. Mr. McNary was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 sister. Reared and educated in Mitchell, South Dakota; he graduated from High School there in 1942 after which he joined the United States Army and served with the 164th Infantry in World War II. After his service in the army they lived in South Dakota until 1952 when they moved to Iowa and in 1959 they moved to Marshalltown where he was employed by the Strand Bakery. He later operated the Big Mac Cleaning Company until his retirement. Harvey was a member of the Saint Henry's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.
