Charles L. Sixbury
Phoenix, Aug 23-Charles Leon Sixbury, World War veteran died Monday in the Veterans hospital in Batavia after a long illness. Mr. Sixbury served 18 months in Co. K, 116th Infantry and was wounded ans gassed at the battle of Chateau Thierry.
He was a member of Horning Fournier American Legion Post 110 and served the post as adjutant. He belonged to the Baptist church in this village and was formerly a member of Callimachus Masonic lodge.
Mr. Sixbury was born in Phoenix June 18, 1898, the son of Charles E. Sixbury and Orpha Pickard and has spent his life here. He has been for years in the employ of the New York Central railroad.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Orpha Sixbury; his wife, Marion; two brothers, Vann of Utica and Dewey of Phoenix; two sisters, Mrs. William Neilson and Mrs. John Carney, both of Phoenix’ two nephews and eight nieces.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at his mother’s home and burial will be in the Phoenix Rural cemetery.
