J.W. Bookout, 80, of Rector died at his home August 3, 2004.

Born at Rector, he was a funeral director and was retired as the manager of Irby Funeral Home. He later worked part-time for Mitchell Funeral Home.

He was a member and former trustee of Rector First United Methodist Church. In his early years, he was a volunteer fireman. He was the grand marshal for the Labor Day Picnic Parade in 1994 and received a Community Service Award.

He was a 32nd degree Mason and had served as secretary for many years and as grand master.

He served on the Woodland Heights Cemetery Committee for more than 25 years.

He served in the US Navy during World War II and was a member of the Rector Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Glenna Sigsby Bookout, a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Larry Cobb of Rector, a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Marilyn Bookout of Marmaduke, stepson and daughter-in-law, Keith and Shirley Walker of Springfield, MO, a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Kendra Lynn and Jim Wiedeman of Russellville, one sister and brother-in-law, Irma and Elmo Thomason of Conway, grandchildren Chene and husband Scott Kirklin, Melissa and husband Stefan Braden, Tonya and husband Joey Langdon, Jason and wife Heather Cobb, Brad and Heather Cobb and step-grandchildren Jordan Brittany Wiedeman and Scott Smith, great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Tyler Kirklin, Jessie and Simon Cobb, Dexter and Austin Cobb and Morgan Langdon.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Quanda Shaw Bookout, his parents, Finer Wagner Bookout and Simon Bookout, four brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services are scheduled at the Rector First United Methodist Church on August 6, 2004 at 2:00 PM with Dr. Jimmy Anderson, Bro. C. Ray Miller and Dr. Larry Martineau officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector. Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 5:30-9:00 PM at Mitchell Funeral Home at Rector on Thursday night, August 5.

Pallbearers will be his nephews: Simon Bookout, Steven Bookout, Cecil Holifield, Troy Manning, Danny Mobley and Roger Mobley.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Jerry Bookout, Earl Clayton, Junior Gardner, Hughey Linam, Bill Mobley, Don Mosley, Don Parmenter, Steven Sigsby, Richard Simons, Bill Vangilder, Doyne Webb and Bill White.
