DELMAR Robert E. McNary, 69, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Born and raised in Delmar, Mr. McNary was a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School, Albany Business College and the evening division of Russell Sage College. He served with the Army during the Korean War, graduating from the Army Signal School at Fort Monmouth, N.J. Mr. McNary was branch systems manager for AT&T in Albany for six years, retiring in 1989. Previously he had worked as a sales manager for New York Telephone in Kingston, Poughkeepsie and Albany for 29 years. An avid skier, Mr. McNary was a member and past president of the Albany Ski Club. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol for over 25 years and served at many ski areas in New York and Vermont. In 1979, Mr. McNary was awarded an Honorary Appointment (No. 5517) by National Ski Patrol for his leadership and service to the skiing public. Mr. McNary was a past member of the Colington Harbor Yacht Club in N.C. and the Mount Snow Rescue Organization. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a social member of the Elsmere Fire Co. A. Mr. McNary was the widower of Edna W. McNary who passed away in 1991. He is survived by his children, Michael R. McNary and his wife Teresa of Selkirk, Mary E. McNary and her husband Roger Frank of Syracuse, Patti A. McNary and her husband, David Roman of Sunrise, Fla., Steven R. McNary of Mechanicville, Cathi Carlino and her husband Joseph of Boston and Karen VanEpps and her husband Brendan of Syracuse. Other survivors include his sister, Grace Colburn of Niverville; an uncle, Kenneth McNary of Delmar; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, Delmar. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Contributions in Mr. McNary's name may be made to the Teresian House, 200 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY 12203.
