MITCHELL - Albert "Al" McNary, 89, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at his home in Mitchell.
He was born March 22, 1912, in Bard to Azel and Anna (Ortman) McNary. He grew up and attended school in Mitchell where he graduated from high school. He served in the infantry in the U.S. Army during World War II, including at the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart medal.
He married Helen Colvin on July 2, 1941, in Omaha. He worked for the Milwaukee Road as a radio repairman, and then for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years. His wife died in 1986.
He was involved with youth baseball and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a member of Mitchell Senior Citizens. He was also a lifelong member of United Methodist Church in Mitchell.
Survivors include three sons: Thomas of Mitchell, Robert of rural Montana and Norman of Minneapolis six grandchildren six great-grandchildren and a sister, Elizabeth McNary of Omaha.
Services begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with burial in Graceland Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
