Nov 7, 1911 at Cedar, KS, a Civil War Veteran married (1) Mrs. Eliza (Sigsby) Bridges Dec 7, 1864, Bristol, Wis- she was born near Madison WI on 6/4/1844 and died at Cedar, KS on 2/4/1883; George married (2) Mrs. Sylvia (Baker) Crites Jan 30, 1894 at Kirwin Kans.
Page 113: Civil War narrative: Late in the year 1862, he was detailed to accompany the bodies of several fallen comrades to their homes at Madison, WI. It was on this mission that he met the widow of Bridges, whom he afterwards married and who later proved to be his second cousin, her mother being a Freeman, of the same family as his grandmother, Mercy Ann Freeman. Eliza Jane Sigsby had married Private James Bridges at ther father’s home near Madison, WI, at noon. The wedding feast was being served when Bridges received orders to report immediately at the front. He left at two o’clock the same day, and his wife never sw him again until his body was brought home from the battle front by George D. Simmonds.

“and together with his son-in-law, Nelson Goddard and family, their household goods packed in covered wagons, Iowa, six hundred long miles away. They acquired farms and here also came John, George (above) and family from Wisconsin, and his step daughter and husband and family from Halfax…etc. The United States census of 1870 lists them in Buffalo Township, Buchanan Co., Iowa:
