SUDDEN DEATH OF PETER OLIVER AT SLINGERLANDS
The entire community of Slingerlands was shocked upon hearing of the death of one of its most highly respected residents yesterday (Thursday) morning when it became known that Peter Oliver had passed away.
He had been apparently the best of health, aside from his incapacitation caused by shock several years ago, until a few days ago when, in caring for his lawn and garden, both of which he took so much pride in, he contracted a heavy cold which gradually grew worse and forced him to his bed. It developed quickly into bronchial pneumonia, and the heart being unable to withstand the ordeal, his sudden death was the result.
Mr. Oliver was in his 64th year and was born in the town of New Scotland March 15, 1865, and had resided in his section all his life, being an industrious farmer and continued as such until illness forced him to retire 14 years ago when he purchased the home in the village where he lived at the time of his death.
He had taken a great interest both in government and local affairs and enjoyed many a discussion on topics of the day withthose with whom he came in contact. Always considerate of others, he had won many a friend by his ministrations and kindly words. Mr. Oliver was a charter member of Nawahada Tribe No. 297, Red Men, of Albany.
Febreuary 21st 1885, he married Mary E. Morrissey of Slingerlands, who survives with two daughters, Mrs. Ann O. Booth at home, and Mrs. Raymond Riffee of Loudonville, on son, John M. Oliver of Slingerlands and three granddaughters, Jane Riffee and Marjorie and Ruth Oliver.
Funeral services are to be held at the home tomorrow afternoon (Saturday) at 2:30 o’clock and will be conducted by the Rev. Irving M. Tynan, pastor of the Slingerlands M.E. church.
