Phoenix Jan 20 Charles Edward Sixbury, 74, died Saturday night at his home in Locke Street after a short illness from a cold and heart trouble. Mr. Sixbury was a native of the town of Lysander, son of the late George Sixbury and Mary Ferguson. He would have been 75 years old on February 10. He was united in marriage April 19, 1880 to Miss Orpha A. Picard who survives him. He also leaves three sons, Vann of Utica, Leon and Dewey of Phoenix, three daughters, Mrs. William Nielson and Mrs. John Carney of Phoenix and Mrs. Dean Babcock of Fulton; the grandchildren and four great grandchildren and an aunt, Mrs. Mary Emeigh of Williamson.
Mr. Sixbury was a member of the Baptist Church of this village; Calbmaches Lodge F & A M, Oswego River Chapter, R.M.A. the Phoenix Rod and Gun club. He belonged to Enterprise Fire company and served as fire chief of the village. He was a past grand of Golden Rule lodge, I.O.O.F.
He was employed for 42 years by the New York central railway maintenance and ways.
He superintended the construction of the railroad along the Onondaga lake shore in Salina, and the west railroad yard in Oswego. During the latter part of his work for the railroad company he was in charge of maintaining the road between Syracuse and Oswego. He retired from the company June 1, 1926.
Mr. Sixbury served in past years as village trustee, chief of police and street commissioner.
A prayer service will be conducted at the home Tuesday at 1:30 and funeral services held in the Baptist church at 2 o’clock. The pastor, the Rev. G.H. Carr, will officiate and Masonic funeral services will be conducted by members of Callitmachus lodge. Burial will be made in Phoenix Rural Cemetery.
