Retired Bank executive dies

Mary Lee Sigsby

Retired Rector bank executive Mary Lee Sigsby died Tuesday, June 21, at her home at age 76.

Born Feb. 7, 1929, in the Leonard community near Rector, she was the daughter of the late Frank Thomas Hill and Floy (Wimberley) Hill. She attended Draughon's Business College in Memphis after her graduation from Rector High School in 1946.

Mrs. Sigsby's 41-year banking career began after one year of college. She accepted a secretarial position at The Bank of Rector and took courses through the American Institute of Banking, extension courses through Arkansas State University and, during three summers, spent her vacation attending graduate banking school at SMU (Southern Methodist University) in Dallas.

She was elected assistant cashier at The Bank of Rector in 1952 and sometime in the late 1950's advanced to vice president and cashier. She was promoted to executive vice president in the early 1970's and, in 1982, was elected president of the bank.

She served as state chairman and southwest regional vice president of the National Association of Bank Women in 1971-72.

Mrs. Sigsby was married in February 1973 to longtime community leader Bert Sigsby, owner of Sigsby Insurance in Rector. He preceded her in death Oct. 20, 2000. She was a member of the Rector First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two step-sons and their spouses, Steven and Lark Sigsby of Rector and Kevin and Pamela Sigsby of Fairfield, Calif.; two grandchildren, Marshall Sigsby and Natalie Sigsby of Rector; one sister, Ellen D. Robinson of Jonesboro; one nephew, Dr. Douglas Robinson and his wife Patricia of Washington, D.C., and two nieces, Connie Robinson of Fayetteville and Sarah Lee Robinson of Dallas, Texas.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, June 24, at the Rector First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Martineau officiating. Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.

Pallbearers were Harold Dills, Stephen Crancer, Keith Hill, Michael Polk, Mark Manchester and Lynn Wimberley. Honorary pallbearers were Mac Manchester, Bob Cranford, R.L. Hill, Weldin Wimberley, Sherry Dills, Dan McBride, Cheryl Schwager, Jean Cole, Gloria Brown and Vanessa Howell.

Irby Funeral Home of Rector was in charge of arrangements.
