Albany, New York Times Union:
9/28/1883 - The Boiler of the Tug JS Robinson exploded with terrific force while the vessel was lying moored at the foot of Westerlo St. in Albany at 2:30 this morning. The explosion was felt as far away as Lexington. Ave. Captain GS Warner and fireman Wm. Cleary of the Robinson were killed outright and the engineer was badly injured. The Robinson was owned in Troy and was completely blown to pieces. The Tug Cora, owned by Captain R. VanZandt of New Baltimore was lying along side the Robinson and the whole of her joiner was torn off by flying debris. Richard Van Zandt, son of the Captain was asleep in the Cora's Pilot House and was also killed. Richard's body was recovered from the deck of a nearby ship. The Cora was towed to the Rensselaer side of the river where it sank immediately.
The remains of Richard VanZandt were brought to his home Saturday evening. The Funeral took place in the ME Church Sunday Afternoon and was largely attended by citizens and friends of the family.
