Notes for Junie Belle RUMREY
!*letter of 10 Aug 1995. "I don't know whether I told you of my grandmother's inheritance." "When Lucy died her children divided up her belongings. As this was during the depression, there wasn't much. The only thing my grandmother wanted was an old desk, which she hauled around the country until about 1970. The desk was getting rather beaten,so she decided to have it refinished. The person doing the refinishing fount a secret door in the desk, which contained the diary her father had kept when he sailed to CA. It also had packages of letters in it. it turned out that the desk had evidently belonged to Ezra Sr., and he had stored the letters that Ezra Jr.had sent home from the front during the Civil war. There were also a few letters sent by Ezra Sr. (it may have been his father's desk) describing his missionary activities in MI in the 1840's. I have Xeroxed the letters and transcribed the diary".
