Notes for Gilbert FONTAINE

Gilbert Fontaine died at the Vererans’ hospital, Albany, April 21, following a brief illness.
Mr. Fontaine was born at Frankfort, PA, June 18, 1900, the son of Mrs. Grace Fontaine of East Greenbush and the late Gilbert Fontaine.
In 1917 he enlisted in the Navy, serving for a two-year period. In 1921 he re-enlisted for four years, later entering the Coast Guard service for two years.
In 1936 Mr. Fontaine was associated with the business house of E.V. Stratton, Albany. Later he was employed at General Electric in Schenectady. In 1941 he took a position at the Voorheesville Depot as patrolman. In 1947 he was advanced to Captain of the Guard, where he werved faithfully until he answered his last call.
Gilbert Fontaine married Myra Smith in 1938. Mr. and Mrs. Fontaine made their home in Guilderland Center.
Mr. Fontaine was a member of the Helderberg Reformed church; a member of Bethlehem Memorial Post 3185 Delmar; a member of Noah Lodge No. 754, F. &A.M., Altamont; of the Guilderland Center Fire department since 1939; also of the National Rifle Association of America.
The Fredendall Funeral home was open to friends and acquaintances of Mr. Fontaine Wednesday evening, April 23. The Guilderland Center Fire department was present in a body; Noah Lodge of Altamont conducted a service at 8:00 o’clock, and Bethlehem Post of Delmar held a services at 8:30 o’clock. Services were held Thursday afternoon, April 24, Rev. Albertus Bossenbroek of Hastings-on-the-Hudson officiating. Interment was in Prospect Hill cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Myra Smith Fontaine; his mother, MRs. Grace Fontaine of East Greenbush, a sister, Grace Rowan of Philadelphia; two brothers, Charles Fontaine of Troy and Harold Fontaine of DeFreestville.
Although Mr. Fontaine had been a resident of the community only sice 1935, he had a large circle of friends, as was shown by the many present at his services and the floral tributes expressive of affection and sympathy.

And there is comfort in the thought that a loving God knows best.”
