ZACHARIAH SMITH DIES SUDDENLY
Mr. Zacharia Smith of Guilderland Centre, died very suddenly of heart disease at his home Monday forenoon, aged 64 years. Mrs. Smith was away at the time, having gone on the Binghamton excursion on Saturday to visit a brother, Mr. Jacob Pangburn, near Union. Mr. Smith was seen about 8 o’clock by Dr. Hurst as he was driving by. Soon after Mr. Melvin Westfall passed by and saw someone lying on the back porch but bave it no further thought until his return when he still saw Mr. Smith in the same position. Mr. Westfall, together with a neighbor’s wife, a Mrs. Barber, investiged the premises and found Mr. Smith dead.
His son, Emmett Smith, was immediately notified and a physician and coroner summoned but an inquest was deemed unnecessary as it was evident he had died of heart failure to which he had been subject for several years.
The funeral was held from his late home on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment at Prospect Hill cemetery. He is survived by a wife and four sons, Emmett and Lester of the town of Guilderland, Myron of Schenectady, and Leroy of Westfield, Mass. Three brothers, three sisters and six grandchildren also survive.
