William Overacker
Redwood March 2-Death has again entered our midst and taken one of Barnes Settlement’s oldest and most highly respected citizens.
William Overacker departed this life to the bright beyond at 3 this morning. He has been in failing health for some time, his trouble being the general wearing away of life’s functions at the advanced age of 88 years.
He leaves a son, J.E. Overacker of Rome, NY, an only daughter, Mrs. John Northrup and a devoted companion who has traveled by his side for more than 63 years now whose feebleness speaks that the parting will not be for long.
Mr. and Mrs. Overacker came from the Mohawk Valley 53 years ago to his late home where they have toiled the years together, a remarkable feature being that they have retained their mental and physical strength and superintended the farm and home work up to within four months of his death.
Their lives have been an example of right living. Their prudent, contented, patient and perservering ways have lengthened their days. Their joys and sorrows of life have been shared together, and in life’s evening they bear witness that God is good.
For many years they have been members of the Methodist Episcopal Church and as Christian neighbors and friends they have won the love and respect of all who knew them.
It is with deep sorrow that we lay our aged friend in the little country cemetery only a short distance away and within sight of the late home that will know him no more.
A large circle of friends lend their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family and may the sweet promise of heaven comfort and console the aged companion in this her deep affliction.
