Utica Sunday Tribune July 8, 1910
Camden, July 7-This morning at 5 o’clock in his home on Chruch Street occurred the death of J.E. Overacker after an illness of about six months. Death being due to a gradual decline.
He was the proprietor of a confectionary restraint of this town, conducting a confectionary and ice cream parlor here for the past 14 years. He was a quiet and unassuming citizen, a loyal friend and had a ___ interest in the affairs of the village. He was a Democrat in politics. J.E. Overacker was born 73 years ago in Herkimer County and when a young man went to Redwood and later to Alexandria Bay where he learned the candy making trade, going to Rome in 1880 where he conducted a store. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Josephine Bush of ____, who died several years ago. In 1885 he married Miss Carrie Gould of Rome. In 1903 they came to this village where he since has conducted a successful and up-to-date candy and ice cream parlor. At one time he was a Mason belonging to the lodge in Redwood.
Besices his wife there survives one daughter by first marriage, Mrs. Byron Carpenter of Gouverneur, one daughter and son by second marriage, Mrs. Clarence E. Pennington of Utica and William who is associated in the business here, also his mother who is 94 years old, residing in Redwood, and a sister, Mrs. John Northrup. The funeral will be held at the home at 10 o’clock Tuesday morning. Interment at Rome.
