Francis R. VanAlstyne
RAVENA Francis R. VanAlstyne, 83, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2004, after a long illness. He was born in South Bethlehem, son of the late Franklyn and Rachel Seaburg VanAlstyne. He was married to Elizabeth Olski VanAlstyne and was blessed with four children, a son, William (Carol) VanAlstyne of Ballston Lake; three daughters, Patricia (Robert) Peck of Northampton, Pa., Joan (Gary) VanApeldoorn of Colonie and Karen (John) Lucarelli of Mechanicville; proud grandfather of ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Francis has a remaining sister, Irene Martin; a brother, Everett VanAlstyne, both of Selkirk; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, LeRoy; a sister, Henrietta Howarth. Francis was an Army veteran of World War II, serving 30 months overseas and had seen action in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a cook in the Army and was honorably discharged in December 1945, receiving 4 service medals. Francis worked for many years as a mason for Local #2 BAC of Albany. He was also a past member of the Ravena Hose Co. as well as the Ravena Fish and Game Club. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting and camping. Funeral services will be held 10:00 Wednesday morning, November 17, 2004 at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena. From there, burial will be at Memory's Garden. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Ravena Rescue Squad, PO Box 144, Ravena, NY 12143, would be appreciated.
