Notes for Johannes SCHAEFFER
JOHN SCHAEFFER - born in Germany ca 1665 (age 44 in 1709); pr. died enroute to America in 1710; pr. m MARIA ELISABETH ... (Elisabeth b ca 1664, d SRL 28 Mar 1749 age 85). We think this was the John on the 1st London list of Palatines in 1709 as a carpenter, age 44, of Reform religion, with sons of age 14, 10, 2 & 5 days (also daughters of age 8 & 6 ). Widow Maria Elizabeth was on the NY Palatine Subsistence list in Jun 1710 (4A,2Y) and Aug 1710 (5A,3Y). She had no further subsistence entries, which Jones concludes was due to her son Johannes receiving the payments beginning in Oct 1710 (PFN/836). Widow Elisabetha Schafferin was on the 1717 Simmendinger census at Queensberg with 3 children.---Barker
