ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Jane Pancoast Moore

of Alexandria, VA and Portsmouth, Naval wife and educator, died Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Alexandria Hospital in Virginia. She was 78 years old.

Born in Fredricksburg, VA and reared in Annapolis, MD, Mrs. Moore graduated from Fairfax Hall in Staunton, VA and attended George Washington University in Washington, DC.

Mrs. Moore taught kindergarten at the US Naval Academy Nursery School in Annapolis, MD; St. Clement’s and St. Paul’s in Alexandria, VA.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Newport; St. Andrew & St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Catholic Church in Alexandria, VA and the International Order of St. Luke the Physician.

Her husband of 57 years, Cdr. Sumner Kittelle Moore, USN-Ret., a daughter, Ann M. Milnor of Charlottesville, VA; two sons, John P. Moore of Charlottesville, VA and Peter O’B. Moore of Great Falls, VA and five grandchildren survive her.

Her son, Sumner, Jr. of Richmond, VA, predeceased her.

Mrs. Moore was a member of the Spouting Rock Beach Association, New York Yacht Club, and Clambake Club in Middletown. She was also a member of the Army and Navy Club in Washington, D.C. and the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, VA.

A memorial service was held on Friday, June 15, 2007 at her church in Alexandria, VA.

Memorial donations, in her name, may be made to The Zabriskie Memorial Church of St. John the Evangelist in Newport.
