After Peter Sixbey was killed in a mining accident in Jo Daviss County, Illinois, his widow Polina (Beckwith) Sixbey married George Burroughs 13 August 1848 in Jo Daviss County, Illinois.

In Polina's later years, she went to live with her daughter Amanda Rhoda Harkins in Rich Hill, Bates County, Missouri. She died there and is buried in the family plot.
