Death Of John G. McNary
John G. McNary, principal of Grammar School No. 93, in East One-hundred-and-tenth-st.,. died suddenly on Wednesday at his home, No. 150 Macon st., Brooklyn. He had not been able to attend to his duties in the school since September of last year, when he was sandbagged near his home one evening after he had posted a letter, and was robbed of a gold watch which had been presented to him by the publils of Public School No. 45 when he was its principal. He never fully recovered from the shock and his death, although attributed to heart failure is believed to have been hastened by the assault.
Mr. McNary was born in this city in 1829. He attended Public School No. 1 in his youth, and then went to Columbia College, where he was graduated in 1851. He entered upon his career as an educator in Public School No. 11, where he was principal for several hears, and he then became principal of No. 45. He left this city in 1863 to enter the employ of the Christle & Comstock Paper Manufacturing Company where he remained until 1875. He was then principal of Public School No. 1 for two years, and afterward went to No. 45, where he spent the rest of his life. He left a wife, two sons, and one daughter.
The funeral will take place tomorrow, and the burial will be in Evergreens Cemetery.
