The Kenneth E. McNary Achievement Award The Kenneth E. Mc Nary Achievement Award evolved in February of 1990 following the celebration and recognition of Ken McNary's extraordinary achievement of 60 years of active service to the Elsmere Fire Co. A, Inc. Ken is still an active fireman today. The award was developed by the Recruitment and Retention Committee comprised of six members representing various areas of responsibility within the Fire District and Fire Company. The committee consisted of Chairman and President Stephen R. Wright, Assistant Chief Edward J. Costigan, Commissioner James B. Hogan, Commissioner Wayne R. Johnson, Lieutenant Peter G. Merrill, and Lieutenant Richard C. Watt. Within this committee was established the criteria and level of dedication and accomplishment which should be followed and adhered to in the determination of future recipients of this award. In general, the award is presented to an individual whose performance best exemplifies the characteristics of Dedication, Professionalism, and Concern for fellow firefighters as well as maintaining the spirit of the Elsmere Fire Company by exhibiting a level of high standards and commitment to the Fire Company and Community.

Kenneth E. McNary
DELMAR Kenneth E. McNary, 94, died Sunday, July 9, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Health Care Center. Born in Guilderland, he was the son of the late Ira and Blanche (Perry) McNary. Mr. McNary was a World War II Army veteran, serving in Africa, Europe and the Middle East. He was a supervisor for Mobil Oil Corporation in Albany for more than 35 years. Mr. McNary was a member of Elsmere Fire Company A for more than 75 years, joining in 1930. He was a member of the NYS Association of Fire Chiefs, the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the American Legion Blanchard Post #1040. Mr McNary was a long time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Albany. Mr. McNary was the husband of the late Alma Engel McNary. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar. Contributions in Mr. McNary's memory may be made to the Elsmere Fire Co. A, Inc., 15 W. Poplar Drive, Delmar, NY 12054.
