FORMER IONIA MAN MEETS TERRIBLE DEATH
Our Ionia correspondent gives the following account of the terrible manner in which E McNary, a former resident of that city came to his death at Galveston, Texas:
Ed McNary, or “Eric”, as we use to call him, who for many years lived here with his parents, met with a terrible death at Galveston, Texas, Tuesday Feb. 28. His brother, Archie, writes back here from Texas City, Texas, to their sister, Mrs. G. P. Searles, and their brother, F.A. McNary that he was with his brother, Ed, went to Galveston to be in the Mardi Gras parade. Ed was in a float and in turning a corner about 10 pounds of flash powder exploded under him, burning him severly and he fell into a pan of fire. He was at once taken to the hospital be he had swallowd so much fire and smoke that he died at 3:20 am the same night. His brother, Archie was in the band about a half block behind the float and saw the terrible scene. His wife got to the hospital about an hour before he died. He was 54 years old and leaves a wife and two children besides an aged mother and several brothers and sisters to mourn his untimely death. The burial was at their home at Lamarque, near Galveston, Texas. The family have the sympathy of their many friends in Ionia where they lived for many years. His mother is down there with her sons this winter.
